Cal/Osha Emergency Covid-19 Prevention Regulations
Cal/Osha has approved emergency Covid-19 prevention regulations which will likely go into effect by November 30, 2020. These new and updated regulations enhance an employer’s obligations with regard to the current Covid-19 crisis. Specifically, the new regulations pertain to nine separate and distinct areas. Employers must now do the following in relation to the current Covid-19 crisis:
1. Write and implement a Covid-19 prevention program and provide training.
2. Identify Covid-19 hazards with help of employees and then correct them.
3. Investigate Covid-19 cases, notify and provide testing to potentially exposed employees.
4. Require physical distancing, masks and improved ventilation, and maximize outdoor air.
5. Don’t allow employees to return to work-site until quarantine ends, and pay employees throughout quarantines.
6. Report all outbreaks – three or more cases in two weeks – to public health department and provide continuous testing to all onsite employees. For major outbreaks – 20 or more cases in 30 days – provide twice a week testing.
7. In employer provided housing, beds must be spaced, and daily disinfection is required.
8. In employer provided transportation, workers get screened before boarding, sit apart from each other and wear face coverings.
These regulations apply to all employers, regardless of size, except those covered by California’s aerosol and transmissible disease standard.
